Salvaging Sunday
Salvaging Sunday is a show about doubting the faith you were raised in without losing it.
I'm Billy Crocker. I preached my first sermon at fourteen, certain I had the answers. For a long time, I believed certainty and faithfulness were the same thing — it took two decades, two deployments to Iraq, and a long walk out of fundamentalism to learn they're not. What I found on the other side wasn't a tidier set of answers. It was a different posture: confession over proclamation, grace over fear, questions I'm allowed to keep asking.
So that's what this is — that work, out loud. Each week, I go back through what fell apart and look for what's still worth keeping. It's for the people the church tends to lose: the deconstructing, the disillusioned, anyone who walked out the back door and still finds themselves missing the table.
I'm a veteran, a former fundamentalist preacher, a dad to a big blended family, and a divinity student. But mostly I'm someone who didn't want to choose between honesty and faith — and found out he didn't have to.
Salvage, not demolition. Keep what's worth keeping.
